Go Green tips for June 7th

Gotta tip you want to share with Sarah and the Go Green Ride at Five? Email her: sarah@921wvtk.com!

Here Sarah's groovy green tips for Monday, June 7th:

• A good way to keep our waterways cleaner is switching to organic soaps, shampoos and detergents. Beware of of greenwashing, though, or green claims that aren’t completely true. Do your research and read those labels carefully!
• Before you run out to buy or even rent a DVD, try hulu.com. Their library of movies and TV shows is ever growing and watching them, absolutely free! Did you hear me, I said, …”FREE”!!!!

In the Green Mountain State Green News on the Go Green Ride at Five (say that five times fast!), Senator Bernie Sanders has announced that he has secured one hundred twenty thousand dollars that will go toward establishing community gardens at 40 schools throughout Vermont. Seeking to not only help students learn the importance of good nutrition and a healthy diet, the Senator also said the program will broaden the school’s curriculum and help make learning fun. What a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about growing food and where food comes from. The programs will include lessons about diet and the benefits of fresh food compared to processed snacks. Student gardeners also will learn about Vermont’s rich agricultural history and, in the process, strengthen bonds between schools and their communities. Senator Sanders says it’s his hope that this project will prove to be a successful pilot and eventually help bring school community gardens to every school in the nation. My only concern in this is that it might put the tater tot on the endangered list, and let’s not even consider what it might do to the square pizza!! All you need is green, the Go Green Ride at Five on 921WVTK.
