Gotta tip you want to share with Sarah and the Go Green Ride at Five? Email her: sarah@921wvtk.com!
Here Sarah's groovy green tips for Friday, June 25th:
• We only use 20% of the stuff in our homes. We wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time and de-cluttering eliminates 40% of work needed to clean the average home.
• Need help controlling that electric bill? Head to the Shoreham firehouse tomorrow for the “Zap Your Electric Bill” program at 10am. The Shoreham Energy Committee is hosting this free workshop to show people how to cut their electricity usage by 50 percent. Bring your most recent electric bill for them to go over with you. Repeats June 28.
A recycling didja know. I’m sitting here taking, yet, another look at addisoncountyrecycles.org. They’re a wonderful source for the “why’s” and “what’s” of recycling. Didja know that your plastic CD cases are recyclable and can be put in the blue bin for curbside pickups? Didja know that fire extinquishers are not recyclable and do not belong in the blue bin. However, once tapped out, some fire extinguishers can be refilled. Contact your retailer or the manufacturer to learn more about this option. If you’re looking to unload yours, they’re accepted at the District Transfer Station HazWaste Center. Something I have a lot of, freezer or ice packs, (used to keep food cold) are not hazardous and should be thrown out with your regular household trash. Do not puncture them and even if they’re made out of plastic, which so many are, do not place them in your recycling, even if the liquid has leaked out. Didja know that not all glass can go in your bin? Of course, food and beverage class can, but window panes and other ceramics and glassware are not accepted. The ingredients used to make glassware or window pane glass are different from what goes into container glass for bottles and jars, thus rendering it non-recyclable. Want to know more? Check out addisoncountyrecycles.org today to find out if you’re following all of the recycling do’s and avoiding the don’ts! This is the Go Green Ride at Five on 92.1 WVTK!
