Gotta tip you want to share with Sarah and the Go Green Ride at Five? Email her: sarah@921wvtk.com!
Here Sarah's groovy green tips for Wednesday, July 7th:
• Styrofoam or polystyrene is not recyclable, nor should we let it end up in our landfills. So, what to do with it? Reuse it! Those big pieces that your new appliance arrived packed in, break them up and store them until you need some packing materials. You know you’ll need them eventually!
• I always say go with recycled goods, and that should include pets! The best recycled pets are available right now at the Addison County Humane Society! Visit their location on Boardman Street in Middlebury, today!
The hot weather means more water used this time of year, how on earth do we keep it at a reasonable level? We’re washing cars more, letting the kids run around in the hose, watering our lawns, dog washing…what do you let go? None of it, if you just make some adjustments. Let the kids run in the sprinklers when they’re watering the lawn! Get an adjustable trigger nozzle for the hose to use for car and dog washing, and move your car onto the grass, use organic soap and water the lawn while you wash your car. You could even skip the soap, all together, if it’s just dust you’re tackling. While I’m on the subject, try to move your car in the shade so it can stays cool. The hotter the metal, the quicker the water evaporates and the more liquid you’ll need—or wash it either early in the morning or wait until the end of the day. One more tip that I learned the hard way: don’t wash your dog anywhere near manure. It’s like gold to a canine nose and just screams for a good dive through. Funny how they prefer the smell of manure to dog soap, huh? This is the Go Green Ride at Five on 92.1 WVTK!
