Go Green tips for August 27th

Gotta tip you want to share with Sarah and the Go Green Ride at Five? Email her: sarah@921wvtk.com!

Here Sarah's groovy green tips for Friday, August 27th:

• Here’s some vegetable facts emailed to me from Tina in Middlebury. Green peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating but peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking. I did not know that. Thanks, Tina!

• Reuse tip alert! Put a couple used drier sheets in your pockets before you head outside on the walk through the woods. It will keep the mosquitoes at bay!

Here’s an alternative to pesticide: Summertime means pesky pests! Things with lots of legs and antennas otherwise known as ants. Now I’m not a real ant-lover, and I really can’t stand the things in my home, and neither can you, I’m guessing. So, to get rid of them, put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it 'home,' can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed! The only snag is if your dog is a canine vacuum cleaner like mine. I choose my cornmeal locations carefully when Gracie is around. Carefully green with a well-fed dog on the Go Green Ride at Five on 92.1 WVTK!
