Go Green tips for October 22nd

Gotta tip you want to share with Sarah and the Go Green Ride at Five? Email her: sarah@921wvtk.com!

Here Sarah's groovy green tips for Friday, October 22nd:

• CFL’s last longer and can save 75% more energy than incandescent bulbs! CFL’s rated by Energy Star are tested for efficiency!
• Did you know that most of the energy consumed by dishwashers and washing machines goes to heating water. Washing dishes and clothes in cooler water can help save energy.

Halloween is just little more than a week away and if you were planning on heading out this weekend for costume shopping, remember the thrift and resale shops! They are wonderful sources of cheap and inventive! Think about the brand new, ready made costume at Walmart that you’ll be lucky if it makes it across the street before it falls apart! Instead, spend less and give your kids the chance to put it together themselves! Growing up, I thought for a while that my mother was so mean because she refused to buy new costumes. We had to make a costume out of what we had around the house. What we came up with totally outshined my friends’ plastic smock and mask get-ups every time and she knew they would. One year, I was a gypsy, another year I was a nurse with white hat, homemade stethescope and all. My Mom is the reason I’m a creative adult and I owe her a ton of gratitude for NOT giving in to my whining! By the way, the Middlebury Community Players are selling off a ton of costume pieces this Sunday from 11am to 3pm at their warehouse on Route 7 South. That would be an excellent place to start your Halloween costume search! Maybe I’ll see you there! This is the Go Green Ride at Five on 92.1 WVTK.
